Tropical Crunch Crumbles – Homemade Treat Bar Recipe

Do you struggle to get your birds to try new things?
Still waiting for them to want to try pellets? Or maybe you’re just looking to add a little more variety to their diet? 🌴💛

We get it — birds can be picky! Honestly, mine are cheeky, spoiled, and very dramatic when it comes to new things… especially food.

Biskuit and Ghost in particular are notorious for turning their beaks up at anything unfamiliar. But we already know they love Raw for Birds treats and Vetafarm Deli Sticks — so we created this recipe using their favourites, inspired by a base recipe from 'Birds of a feather Q&A first aid for parrots' Facebook group.

What is Raw for Birds treats?

Raw for Birds is a fantastic Australian brand we proudly stock. That focuses primarily on organic, human-grade bird food that specialises in the health and well-being of all birds. 100% Bird-Safe ingredients and adored by all our flock.

✨ Why our birds love these!

  • Variety of texture, Crumbly and Crunchy
  • Made with bird-safe ingredients our birds already love
  • Easy to swap out ingredients or add extras in
  • Smells amazing (seriously, you'll want to nibble them yourself!)
  • A great way to introduce your birds to pellets and new types of treats

🌿 Ingredients (Makes approx. 6–8 crumbles)

✨ Optional Extras:

You can add in all different kinds of extras that your bird preferences like nuts, millet or even shredded coconut.

🍳 How to Make Tropical Crunch Crumbles

  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (325°F)
Line a baking tray with baking paper so you’re ready to go.
  2.  Mix together all dry ingredients
Mix together your seed, pellets, and treat mix into a bowl, including any optional extras.
  3. Add the all wet ingredients
Pour in the egg whites and honey, then give everything a good mix. It’ll feel sticky and a little crumbly - this is normal.
  4. Shape your crumbles right on the tray
Place your cookie cutters directly on the baking paper, then press the mix in firmly with your fingers or by using the back of a spoon. Gently lift the cutter off, remove any cookies cutters before next step.
  5. Bake for around 10–18 minutes
Cook till lightly golden brown. Be sure to keep an eye on them whilst they are baking. Depending on size and thickness you may need to adjust cooking times.
  6. Let them cool completely
When they have finished baking, you will need to allow them to cool completely before removing from the tray, they will be soft, and can easily crumble whilst still hot.
Optional: You can use a cooling rack if you prefer.

How Can I Use These For Foraging Enrichment?

These crumbles are perfect for sprinkling over your bird’s foraging trays — especially favourites like the Cardboard Forage Log Maze. You can also wrap a Tropical Crunch Crumble in butchers paper to create little “parcels” and tuck them into your bird’s foraging toys. It adds an extra layer of challenge and fun, especially for more advanced foragers.

Please Note: These are intended as enrichment treats only and should never replace your bird’s regular balanced diet. Always serve in moderation.
