Banana Split for Birds🍌
Share
I love a good banana split — it’s the perfect mix of fresh fruit, creamy goodness, and a little sweet indulgence. But let’s be honest… it’s not exactly bird-friendly!
Since my Sun Conure and Indian Ringneck both go bananas for bananas, we decided to create a safe, enrichment-packed version just for them.
This Banana Split for Birds is fun to make, naturally colourful, and a great way to turn snack time into playtime. Bananas are a healthy treat for birds in moderation, and this recipe adds in a few extra bird-safe ingredients to make it even more exciting!
What you'll need
- 1 Fresh Banana
- A few bird-safe berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- Your birds favourite seeds, nuts or foraging mix
- A few of your birds favourite veggies (Carrot, Corn etc)
- Plate
- Spoon
- Chopping Board
✨ Tip: All ingredients should be unsweetened, unsalted, and offered in moderation — this is a treat, not a full meal!
Instructions
- Prepare the banana: Using a knife, make a cut down the centre and across the middle on one side of the banana. Peel back the four strips to create a boat-like shape.
- Scoop out the centre: Use a spoon to remove about a quarter to half of the banana's flesh, creating space for the fillings.
-
Add fruits and veggies: Chop your parrot's preferred fruits and veggies into suitable sizes and place them into the hollowed section of the banana.
- Top with treats: Sprinkle your parrot's favourite seeds, nuts, or foraging blend on top for added texture and flavour.
- Serve: Offer the whole banana split to your bird, or cut it into chunks to share among your flock.
