Cage Type and Size Requirements

It is important to note that budgerigars have a natural flight pattern that is more horizontal, moving from side to side, rather than vertical, such as flying upwards or downwards. Therefore, selecting a cage that allows for sufficient horizontal flying space is crucial to promote their natural behaviour and overall health.

One commonly used cage type for budgerigars is a Flight Cage. This type of cage provides ample space for budgerigars to move around, stretch their wings, and engage in short flights within the enclosure. Flight Cages typically offer the necessary horizontal space to accommodate the budgerigars' natural flight patterns.

Never use Round Cages For your pet Birds

Perches & Leafy Branchs

Additionally, the branches offer surfaces for birds to rub their faces and feathers against during moulting, aiding in the maintenance of their plumage.

Unlike dowel perches, which have a uniform diameter, natural perches offer varying widths, promoting natural foot movement and providing a more diverse perching experience. Relying solely on dowel perches can lead to weakened claws in birds and may make them susceptible to developing bumblefoot, a painful condition.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that as long as a variety of natural perches are available, having a single dowel perch generally poses no harm to birds. However, incorporating natural branches into their environment is highly beneficial and supports their overall well-being.
